What is Domain registration
Domain registration is the process of acquiring a unique website address, also known as a domain name. A domain name serves as the online identity of a website, making it easier for users to find and access the site.
Registering a personalized domain name for your brand offers several benefits:
- Provides a professional and credible image
- Offers a sense of trust and authenticity.
- Gives you control over your online presence and branding, allowing you to choose a name that aligns with your brand
- Enables you to have a personalized email address, such as [email protected]

What you need to know before buying a domain
- You're not really buying the domain name but rather renting it. After registering a domain name there is a recurring yearly fee for renewal that you need to pay in order to continue to use the domain name.
- You should ideally choose a very short domain name. For example, if your business name is "First National Bank Namibia" you should choose a domain like "fnbnamibia.com" or "fnbnamibia.biz". Imagine someone typing "firstnationalbanknamibia.com" into their browser.
- Choose a unique domain name to avoid customers confusing your domain for someone else's domain.
- Make use of the right domain extension that is suitable for your business.
- Country-specific domain extensions indicate the region that your website content is relevant for and choosing a country-specific domain ( i.e. .com.na for Namibia ) may be beneficial for your ranking on search engines.
- Top-level domains are the best domain extension to choose, but they are also the most expensive domains. The top-level domain for Namibia is .na and costs around N$5,000 per year for Namibian residents.
- Domains bought through a registrar are registered in the name of the company who is using the domain.

domain
How long does it take to register a domain?
Registering a domain is a quick process which takes around 1 hour.
Why do domains need to be renewed annualy?
Domain names are never owned but rather rented. That’s why there is a yearly renewal fee that needs to be paid in order to keep the domain for exclusive use.
What happens if the renewal fee is not paid?
If the yearly renewal fee is not paid then the domain will go into a grace period whereafter it will become deactivated.
What happens after the domain registration?
After buying a domain the next steps depend on what exactly you want to do with your domain.
- Point your domain to a nameserver from where you can manage DNS records. We recommend to make use of Cloudflare.
- To set-up a website on your domain, the A-records of your domain need to point to the website hosting provider.
- For e-mail setup, the MX records need to point to your email hosting provider. Additional TXT records for SPF, DKIM and DMARC may be added to prevent spoofing and make your emails more secure.
If all of this sounds to overwhelming for you, please be reassured that we can handle the setup for you or alternatively guide you through the process if you prefer to do it yourself. Simply get in touch with us.
